Employ the Older Worker Week
September 19-25, 2010

 

PURPOSE  

The Senior Training & Employment Program (STEP) is a work-training program for low-income persons age 55 and older.   Those who qualify may receive paid, temporary assignments where they develop the skills, experience and confidence to find a permanent job outside of STEP.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be 55 or older and unemployed at the time you apply for enrollment.

  • Must meet low-income federal guidelines.

  • Must be a resident of the County of Hawai`i.

 ENROLLEE BENEFITS

  • Gain current work experience and references.  
  • Get you on your feet to get a job in the workforce at large and to be independent.
  • Earn wages to supplement monthly income. (This should NOT be a main source of income)

 *Includes wages, social security, interest income, net rental income, retirement, pension, insurance policy annuity and alimony.  The maximum income limits are increased every year around March.  If you do not qualify this year, you may qualify next year when federal income limits are raised.
 

The Older American Community Service Employment Program (OACSEP) is operated by the U.S. Department of Labor and by local project grantees, such as the State of Hawai`i Department of Labor & Industrial Relations Workforce Development Division.
 

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Hawai`i County Office of Aging, using Title V, Older Americans Act funds.
 

As a Big Island Workforce Connection partner, STEP participates in Hawai`i County’s One-Stop Service Delivery System which includes making and receiving referrals under the Workforce Investment Act.
